My 2 Stans(generic photos from smokingpipes.com):a 62 and a 126

Both are excellent smokers.

I'm still new to Stanwells but picked this one up a couple of weeks ago from Pipestud. It is a little gem of a pipe, beautiful straight grain all around. I was very surprised at how delicate the bamboo stem is, barely a half-inch diameter at the knuckles. This is a wonderful flake pipe, one of the coolest smoking that I own.

PS this is the first pipe pic with my new camera, an Olympus Pen E-P1. The first compact that might convince me to unload all of my big, heavy DSLR's.

Dock,

How do you keep your smooth rims from darkening? All of mine are to one extent or the other black. I hear you can get it off with very hot water applied from a wash rag.

Generally I'll just spit on an old towel and wipe very hard til' it comes clean. With rough textured pipes I'll spit on an old toothbrush and rub like hell til' the majority comes off. You can also use a small copper brush on plateau tops that becomre dark. These can be bought at auto parts stores in the detailing aisle and usually in a three pack that also comes with a wire brush and a nylon one.

It's much easier to keep them clean in the first place than to try to clean them afterwards though. Whenever I'm smoking I keep a papertowel nearby. As the moisture accumulates on the rim I'll quickly wipe it off.

Just an added comment, I have found that the micro-fiber cloths that they sell for polishing cars, etc (Dock, you must have a ton of these) work a little better than a cotton or terry cloth towel. The extra tooth seems to clean off the tar better and especially gets into the nooks and crannies on blasts etc. Costco sells a big bundle of these cloths for about $15 so I use them for everything. Spit is still the best solvent.

I love this #186! It is one of my weekly smokers.

I love the brass band treatment Mark. It really sets the pipe off. It's a damned shame that they don't make them that way anymore :x

The Bamboo's are VERY pricey new. Around $250.00+ or so if I recall. It's rare to see one go for under a hundred bucks anywhere! It should be fill free as I believe all of the smooth bamboo's are....

Dock, I have looked and looked for more Stanwells in he Rondo series and you just can't find them anymore. I hope to add a #185 to my stable. I have seen some of them listed on a couple of European sites.

What shape number is that Mikey? I really need one of these!
Alas, the stamping is light and darn near illegible on that side (The pipe is "ADE IN DENMARK")... there's a few marks that could be characters or maybe just stray sandblast. I'll hit it up with the magnifier when I have some natural light tomorrow.
