It seems PA can do no wrong; the question then becomes is it worth it to spend double? the money on blends made at the above B&Ms?

Have you tried Uhle's and Peretti's burley's ? They are both hands down better than PA ever dreamed about being.

I must agree with Canvasback on this one. As good as PA may be, it doesn't compare to a hand blended custom burley from a reputable tobacconist. After speaking with one of the major tobacco manufacturers in the USA he claims there are approx. no more than 30 true tobacconists left in this country. Don't pass up the chance to experience an amazing taste treat from a custom tobacconist. As we all know, tobacco is personal preference so enjoy whatever suits you, but do yourself a favor and despite the price, experiment with some great custom blends.
:D :D

Personally I don't like PA.. How anyone thinks it compares in favorable light to Uhles, Perettis, or even C&D burleys is beyond me.......

And Doc, I imagine that guy was being less than truthful about 'true tobacconist' .. probably more like 6 or 8 tops.

Peretti 333 can not be compared in any way to PA... it's in a totally different league. That said, I'm no fan of PA.

My favorite OTC burley is Carter Hall, that blend is the value play of the genre, IMO.

I disagree, there is hardly a day goes by I don't smoke a bowl of PA, and I have a lot of tobaccos. But there is no tobacco everyone likes. That's why we have variety.

And then there is John Middleton Walnut........................

I haven't had the pleasure of smoking Uhle's blends but can tell you that Peretti blends are well worth their price. The packing, taste, burn rate, and flavor are awesome. Try some BPC or Cuban Mixture to see what I mean.

I like PA but much prefer Carter Hall. Would like to try Uhle's but Peretti's blends, especially 333, set fire to my tongue.

I've never been disapointed with Uhle's & Peretti's Burleys, especially Somerset flake, how anyone can compare PA, to these is beyond me! Ken
Pacem en Puffing!

I don't think anyone compared PA to Uhle's and Peretti's, except in some sense, me. After reading so many favorable comments about PA, I somewhat provocatively threw out the question.

I just recieved an order of uhle's prefection plug and 00 burley. I tried the 00 and it is an excellent burley. Im headed out now for a walk in the woods and am gonna try the perfection plug. I didnt see his crushed white burley in his list of tobaccos in the paper he sent with my order. Maybe he discontinued it...

I think the perfection plug is even better than the 00 from uhle's time to try the bishops move !!

I can't speak to the others but Peretti makes some great burlies. Somerset is really good and so is 333, but I prefer somerset. Having said that my favorite burley is Solani ABF...man that stuff is good.
