I was just going to start a topic about whether anyone had ever had a pipe burnout, then this pops up. Guess that answers the question. I have never had a burnout even in a corn cob. I even tried to make a crap basket pipe burn out by holding it out the window while driving. It started to smoulder a bit, but didn't actually come close to burning out--it just "alligatored" the interior of the bowl with heavy cracks. It will be interesting to see what Smoking Pipes and/or Peterson does about this, if anything. Keep us posted.

Okay, so the Pete Calabash is dead, and will be replaced somehow (either by Smoking Pipes, or else I'll buy something somewhere); plus I have the Peterson Barrel I bought at the same time as the Pete calabash and the new viking bent apple (brapple, brandy, PB/egg, whatever). I'll smoke a pouch of Carter hall through the three of them and build a cake like nobody's business!

A deceased pipe becomes an estate pipe, not so? Whatever the case may be, I've just now lit a candle for the pipe that is no more.

Glad to hear that! They are good folks to deal with for sure. I think you had an "exception to the rule " with that Pete and this new one you are getting will probably be MUCH better
