So, no info on these yet? Or are they not available at this point? Or am I just not dialed into the right sites?

OK so I've poked around on a couple sites and can't seem to find the "Yeats smooth in the Writers Collection". Nothing like it on P&C or smokingpipes. Where are you seeing it? I'd just like to get a sense of the price at this point.

Also interested in checking out the price and availability on the Hopkins if you or anyone has a source.

TIA

Cheers,

RR

Yeah, the pictures ARE rather small:

Now if you like THAT one...the Yeats in the Writer's Collection might be to your taste as well - and you can get it in smooth, rusticated, ebony (smooth black) or a blast (black sandblasted).

This is the smooth.

And from their "River" collection:

If you're dead set on the Yeats in the smooth polished finish there are domestic options. First thing I'd do is call cupojoes. They have the smooth writers collection (look under Peterson pipes, then collections). I'd ask them to sell me just the one pipe. They do occasionally break up sets and sell individual pieces, examples of this practice are on their website quite often. If they won't, I'd ask them to order one for me. The advantage to this is you can get the exact pipe you want (color, choice of stem material, etc), the disadvantage is the wait.

I recently was hunting for a specific peterson that was nowhere to be found. I called smokingpipes (who would be my first choice, but in your case COJ seems to have the pipe you want in stock, albeit it's in a set) and talked to them about ordering the thing for me. I was initially told that the pipe could be a year out, that Peterson was backlogged in a big way, and that they didn't feel right about taking my money for a pipe that is unlikely to materialize for such a length of time. I dug further and ended up in a 4 way email conversation between Sykes (SP owner), the man at Ashton (the US importer for Peterson pipes), Tom Palmer of Peterson and myself. It was all very cordial and I wasn't trying to push anyting, just asking if it was even gong to be possible to ever obtain the pipe. All parties made it clear that absoutely wanted desired pipes in the hands of collectors and the end result was that some of these pipes will be shipped to Ashton in mid April and my pipe was ordered.

The point is, if you see something you like, ask and ask again. In my case, I simply found it odd that the pipe I wanted, not a terribly rare or unusual model, would be so hard to get, so I emailed Peterson directly and they forwarded it to Ashton who got the vendor involved, and the pipe was put i the manufacturing que. Being as thenpipenyoumwant is in a special edition that surely won't be made for much longer, I'd try to order it through a vendor and then contact Ashton if there is any kind of delay promised, get to the bottom of it and see if the pipe can be sourced. If not, you may have to go with an overseas vendor of be vigilant on EBay.

Great idea PD. I'll try that, yes indeedy I will!!

I just spotted this, if anyone's interested in a smooth Hopkins Sherlock Holmes pipe...

Gotta admit that is one very handsome looking pipe right there-

sherlock_hopkins.png

And it's shaped significantly different than the other "Yeats" Pete that also caught my eye-

Smooth-Yeats-big.jpg

The "small" issue I have with the Yeats is that the shape is basically identical to another favorite pipe of mine in regular rotation - which is not a Pete but rather a Maestro. It's a fine smoker and I visit it daily. But - the Maestro is rusticated and it seems to have fallen into being dedicated for a particular tobacco right now (P&W #78 and Churchill).

So the issue with choosing the Yeats might seem a simple one. While it's a shape that I know and love, it would open this particular style to other 'baccys not confined to the Maestro, which would be a positive thing. And.....it's a Pete! Yet, I still haven't found a vendor or price on this. So there is that.

The Hopkins is the clear winner to me, at least from the perspective of style. Really like the unique approach to what I would call a cross between a sitter/poker and volcano. And in a half bent which is much to my tastes. The P-lip feature is fine with me since virtually all of my Petes have this and I'm comfortable with it.

Guess it's down to price at this point. Iwan Ross has it listed for $235. And while that might not seem like a lot to some of you, it is to me. Some of my best smokers are pipes well under $100 and they are estates.

Guess I'll have to pass on this lark for the time being. At least until they start showing up many years later in the estate category.

<sigh>

:(

RR

This shouldn't be a problem. That is a Sherlock Holmes shape, the Hopkins. It is $235 because that is the going rate for the Holmes line. But, all of the Holmes shapes are also made in the Kinsale line, which run about $110 for rusticated, $125 for smooth. Call either Cupojoes or smokingpipes and order one :)

A note about the above statement - You may have to wait a bit for it in Kinsale form. As the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes line just recently came out, it might be a little while before the shapes materialize in Kinsale form. But, all the other Holmes shapes have come out in Kinsale, so it's only a matter of time. Gives you time to save up for it.......

Sounds like patience is the name of the game here PD.

Thanks for the info and insight.

There's no need for patience at all. What I'd do is send and email to Peterson and ask.
