Way cool BH! Thanks for that, and I've just sent them an e-mail asking about the availability of the Hopkins shape in the Kinsale line. Also sent a query to smokingpipes. So we'll see how we go from here.

If the same shape is offered in the Kinsale line for about half as much as the Holmes I could probably live with that.

I appreciate all the help guys.

:D

Cheers,

RR

There's no need for patience at all. What I'd do is send and email to Peterson and ask.

Hey! I think that's TOTALLY cool! For one thing at least is WILL be coming out...cause one just never knows. And the fact that he got back to you so quickly is amazing. Very strong performance. Indeed...good on Mr. Palmer - and you as well for digging out the information.

I better start laying away some change. I gots a tall can that ALL my nickles and higher go in at the end of every day...faithfully. It's one of those C&D 16 oz tin things. I think I'm going to put a big fat label on the back of it that says, "Hopkins"!

Ya, I was impressed with his prompt response. Just goes to show that he takes an interest in the customers, which is fundamental IMO.

Now I just gotta get a handle on the Yeats and see where that goes.

OK, I have to come clean and 'fess up..........

This obsession with the Hopkins dogged me from the day I saw the pic. Couldn't put it out of my head, try as I might. Just kept looking again and again at the pic and kept thinking about how nice the lines flowed on the bowl toward the shank. And how the overall effect was executed in a very classy fashion.

Yes, it's a sitter/poker/cherrywood style, but one that the Peterson craftsmen have taken to a new level IMO. Beguiling, even sexy! LOL!

Well...you know where this is going.............

Just had to have the Hopkins RIGHT NOW, despite the (almost) certainty that the shape would eventually be released in the Kinsale line at some point for much less do-re-mi.

I.... just....couldn't....wait........

You know how it is..................

:suspect:

Long post short, took delivery on the Hopkins today and she (if there is a gender regarding pipes) is beautiful beyond words! If anything, she is more appealing in person than she is on the pics we've seen.

The grain on the bowl is totally amazing! I've never seen so many tight birds-eye swirls in so tight a pattern. In fact it looks somewhat like the foot pic of a well-rolled cigar, only in miniature! Very impressive.

The finish is magnificent. I'd call it a cross between a red colour and a brown. Distinctive as all getout!

But the thing that draws me back in again and again is the perfect symmetry between bowl and stem. Pure genius I tell you......LOL!

Thanks and kudos to all involved that were my enablers on this, especially PD. And yes I did get it from the link on the Iwan Ries that you so kindly provided. I see now that they show "temporarily unavailable" on that.........

I've no buyers remorse in this, and while I represented the cost issue being a deterrent, the only way I can justify the expenditure is to sell off some cigars, which I have already started doing through another site.

The Hopkins is totally amazing! You have to see it in person to appreciate it fully..... and I'm happy to say I am.....

:geek:

OK, so in case you forgot what the Hopkins looks like here she is......

Sweet! :D May it bring you many years of enjoyment and not make too terrible a dent in your cigar humidor.

None of us will lay any blame or tease you - as we have ALL fallen prey to the siren lure of the sweet shapes. I myself recently bit on an OomPaul (the infamous OomSquatch) for more than I've ever paid for a pipe. The Hopkins IS gorgeous...and you will always treasure it more for its being the Sherlock rather than a Kinsale...every single time you pick it up.

I can't blame you at all Brewdude, we've all been there more often than we like to admit! I ran across my absolute favorite Sherlock Holmes, the Strand, the other day and moreover it was a fishtail! It wasn't easy to pass up until I saw the price tag... One day I'll have it though!! Along with some spigots, and Rosslare royal Irishes...... It's official I've been struck by the Peterson craze, and I think it's here to stay!

Ain't it the truth? In the past months I've added 4 or 5 Petes to the stable. This Hopkins being the pick of the litter as it were. Still marvel at looking at the grain on it. What a piece of art!

And yet on top of it all I'm currently starting to get the Jones over another one. It's kind of a mutt, but I gotta say it has it's charms. Check it out-

Have you seen the rustic version of that pipe? The main part of the strummel is rusticated while the section above the line is smoothe...very handsome.

No I haven't.

But this one seems to call to me.

More than that I can't esplain Lucy......
