Adobe Photoshop, along with all other Creative Suite applications, just made a move to the cloud. Adobe decided to discontinue software you can actually buy so they can force you to rent the applications for a monthly fee.

just when I was looking for a photoshop app (older version) to buy or trade for...

GIMP it is I guess... too bad.. the GIMP is great, I still wanted photoshop... I guess it's time to let go

I'm not into graphics but if I had to make a living using that type of software I would be looking very hard for an alternate source. "Bohica" as we used to say..

The GIMP is a fantastic program. Convoluted, awkward and takes some learnin', but a great program.

I can't disagree with you at all... 700+ or free... The GIMP is a great tool ... I guess it's time to do a little,ore reading so my templates are saved right


I also use UFRaw for Raw file editing...

We just got a digital camera and I am trying Lightroom 5.
I am not going into the cloud and lots of the people we have talked with recommend Lightroom.
You c an also learn a lot about it on the internet

www.pixlr.com is another free web-based applicatino that can do some stuff...I'm sure it's not as sophisticated at PS or Lightroom, but it works for me when making advertisements, or business cards, etc.

I use The Gimp a lot. Linux Mint is my OS of choice nowadays. Windows is used as little as possible. Freeware does not mean hard to use.

I use a lot of freeware, but I also use a lot of pay-ware. Neither of which I mind, provided they work and work well.

I don't have an "anti" on any OS or poise/philosophy with software. If it's good, and free, and I use it a lot, I donate. If it's good, and reasonably-priced, I pay for it.

I don't mind MS Win7. It has its strengths and weaknesses, but ultimately, I have a ton of music programs that are not Mac/Linux compatible at all (I've tried), and mapping software that requires a PC. I don't mind. <img class="emojione" alt="?" title=":shrug:" src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/emojione/assets/png/1f937.png?v=2.2.7"/>

I ended up with Magix Movie Edit Pro for my video work. When I can muster up the $$$ to own it, I will. The trail program worked flawlessly and does everything I need.

Nothing, to date, beats the price and function of Audacity for my sound editing...I love that program. :heart:

I use Audacity in Linux for all my vinyl ripping. Supposedly I get a higher bitrate than Windows is capable of. Don't ask me to explain it. Something I came across in reading. I create 24bit 96kHz FLAC files for my laptop at work. Then playback is though a Maverick Audio Tubemagic DAC, then a MAC 1900 receiver, and speakers are now Klipsch Heresy II's. That's my sanity preservation project for work.

LR is one of the best programs out there. It's progressed to the point that any one that doesn't want to do composting or work in layers should be pretty darn happy. I've been using LR since LR1. While I do have Photoshop CS5E but I rarely use it. The Photoshop suites are are designed for working pros but IMO Adobe has shot themselves in the foot with the cloud move. Time will tell.

Hell, I still use Photoshop CS and am very happy with it.
Of course I also still have a wringer washer.

lol it will probably keep people from using Photoshop as much as they used to as well. You will end up paying more to use it than it cost to buy outright. I'm not the type of person to buy the next upgrade when it comes out, and used CS3 well after the release of CS5. (So i more than got my money's worth). I for one, will look for a suitable alternative. I'm a little disappointed Adobe went this direction. :evil:

In the past, Photoshop Elements and Intaglio were all I needed for most of the pro graphics work I've had to do. But when I got a request to create The Dark Light music video last year, I realized that I was going to need some more serious tools. Shortly thereafter I saw Adobe's announcement about switching Photoshop to the "software as a service" model, which might work for heavy-duty professional graphics shops with huge budgets, but doesn't work at all for an independent multi-media artist like me who only occasionally has a need for pro graphic arts tools.

Anyhow, right then and there I knew I was going to have to glom onto a copy of CS6 (Extended Edition) before it became extinct. So I did.

And as a certain kleptomaniacal alcoholic robot would say, Adobe can just...
