but if you send it to ME, I'll break it in CORRECTLY with some nice straight Virginias for you. Non of that Aro/Burley stuff

Actually I was thinking more along the lines of Frog Morton On The Town or EMP. 8)

But you're right, Monbla. Captain Black White would be more appropriate. :p

Cool watch! :D

That pipe is a sweetheart. I wouldn't let the small chamber sway me, looks like a candidate for something dark and strong. Dark flake? Brown pigtail?

Gorgeous pipe indeed. I'll let these other guys fight over it, though. I've never been a "watch guy" at all. I still wear the Timex my grandma gave me for high school graduation. From my heathen perspective, Seiko never had the image of a high quality make. The error of my ways was made clear to me when my company gave me one for my ten-year anniversary. That was in the beginning of the recession, when new home construction, which my industry depends on, was in a nose dive. We were in the middle of cutbacks, downsizing and benefit reductions, so I thought it was pretty fitting for them to give me a cheap watch. Then I noticed they left the price tag on it, and it was actually a $500 "cheap watch"!

Seiko is probably the best value vs price watch out there, as long as we're talking mechanicals. Fitting too that you should wear a Seiko while smoking your Tsuge 8)

I stand a bit more educated on that topic now.

I to still wear the Seiko I got from my grandfather when I graduated from High School back in '65, a handwind mechanical and it is still running strong. Many folks don't know but back when the Swiss let other firms than Swiss into the Chronometre compititions, back in '66, '67. and '68 Seiko took 1st and second place beating out the other european firms and in '69 all the way thru now they have not let any firms other than Swiss firms compete since! Seiko make a level of watch, all mechanical called the Grand Seiko and they equal if not better many of the High End Swiss watches made today and cost as much ! They make far MORE than just "cheap quartz" watches though they did really make the first production Quartz watch back in '67 or so which basically killed the Swiss watch industry. They and Citizen produce some of the FINEST watches in the world and I own and wear 3 Rolex's and my Seiko's are their equals JMHO :p

Thanks for the replies gentlemen!
Maybe I will try that pipe out. I think PD's suggestion of something strong and dark sounds good.
The Seiko was my dad's before he started wearing Casio and Texas Instruments!
The little puzzle box has been mine since I was about 7 years old, and it used to hold all my treasures: lucky rabbit's feet,
rocks, and coins. I Hope my son will use it likewise.

Yet another blasted beauty, Harlock! I don't suppose tonight's film selection has anything to do with recent threads?

Hmm? What, oh those?
Quite possibly, yes... 8)

Wait. Wait wait wait.

How exactly do Cabin Boy and The Maltese Falcon end up in the same picture room?

I think my girlfriend really likes me, as she sat through Cabin Boy in it's entirety, and even I have a hard time doing that...

And now, a very special episode of Father's day:
I went to my dad's place yesterday, and had a great time with him and my son. For father's day, he gave me one of his knives, and most surprisingly, a small meerschaum pipe he smoked way back in the 1950's. It was surprising because I had no idea that he had ever smoked a pipe. It's the only pipe he ever bought, and smoking it never became a habit for him, despite the charred rim. My dad is getting up there in years (90), and I do cherish these gifts, as I have all my life.

Harlock,

Nice! A Boker Tree Brand knife. I've had a few, but none that nice with a Damascus blade.

How wonderful that on Father's Day he should give you his old pipe and knife. I hope you, your son and father had a memorable day.

I am quite familiar with the Minox camera.....

Thank you sir!
I tend to partake in a bit of jesting here on BoB, but I really was touched by my dad's gifts, and I had a great day.
Cheers,
Chris

P.S. Would I be correct in assuming you did not use a Minox for taking vacation photos... 8)

Chris, that's too cool to not only find out that your dad smoked but to obtain his pipe. It's a cool old meerschaum and an even cooler blade! Cherish them both.
