We've all got one. You know the one; the pipe you don't display on the rack or smoke when others are watching. Maybe it's a battered old veteran or a putty queen. Perhaps the "unique" carving looks like an upside down dog pile. Show us your worst. Let us know how you came to own such a monster, and why you haven't gotten rid of it yet.

Here's mine. It's an odd, cloth-covered GBD of unknown vintage.

I got it as part of a 2-pipe ebay lot with a nice old Longchamp. I wanted the Longchamp and made what I considered a low ball offer, hoping I might be able to negotiate for just the one pipe. To my surprise, the seller excepted right away, so I feel a bit like I got the GBD for free.

It's actually denim, but worn as it is, you could hardly tell. It's spotted and stained and worn down to a hard, oily sheen, like my dirtiest shop coat. Why anyone would wrap a pipe in absorbent, easily soiled fabric is beyond my reasoning.

I must admit, though, it's a rugged looking little beast. It smokes as well as any of my 3 GBDs. It's nice to have a good-smoking pipe that I don't need to worry about dirtying up, and as such, it goes well with said shop coat. Then again, maybe I just keep it around to make my Jolly Boy feel pretty. :p

Looks like something that should have been given away with the denim interior Gremlin.

Sorry, I'll post an ugly pipe picture...

This Sasieni is pretty beastly. Looks like an amateur freehand, dipped in tar.

Okay if it is ugly then the camera makes it look great.

Lol!
It does look a little better on the computer screen than it did in hand...

Harlock, a nice cool. suave looking guy like you should NOT be forced to smoke an ugly pipe like that ! Send it to me, it'll go with my 40 years of ugly face I have

Yeah, I'm thinkin that Saseini actually looks pretty cool.

I got nothin that compares to the ugly of that denim pipe. That thing's freakin coyote ugly :suspect:

And now we find out Harlock is married to Carmen Electra and just finds her marginally decent looking instead of smoking hot.

George that weird cloth covered pipe reminds me on an old army medic, field surgical kit I have. I just looks so.....so.....M*A*S*H ..... I'll post a pic of the surgical kit with 2 of my uglies in a few minutes.

funny you should bring this up because I'm smoking the Willard (lower one) right now. Each of these pipes have 7 or 8 huge fills.

I just noticed the warranty on that Gremlin, 1 year or 12,000 miles

Oooohhh!! No wonder AMC did so well! Those Japanese car makers will never be able to compete!

My leather bulldog sure ain't pretty, but this one is just funky, probably my ugliest. It smokes flake really well, but don't even get ribbon cut near it--it's a 9mm filter pipe I smoke without the filter. I bought it just because it was a freak--some kind of blue dye with whitewash on briar:

That one certainly goes into the "almost anything weird" box without an argument.

I kind of miss it. :( My father-not-in-law needed one of my shortest and one of my biggest pipes to use as a guide for a pipe rack he's making for me.

The Shark would sit happily next to the denim abomination of GK's...

My grandma had a collection of plates that looked an awful lot like that pipe, Kyle. Tha two of them together would make a nice Grandma and Grandpa set. :p

Yeah, the Shark has this Corningware or blue & white porcelain thing going on, don't it? That's why I got it. I have this pipe stand that looks like a small love seat, they can sit there and listen to Jack Benney all day and all night.

:lol!: Even the best of us must sometimes settle for mediocrity. I was kinda hoping GMF would be into the "Grampa Blue Jean" GBD. It'd be great for Borkum Riff. ;) Oh well. The Jolly Boy'll be happy to stay the SECOND ugliest in my collection:

Here's my ugly. It's a Dr. Grabow Starfire 20. I was currently bidding on a Dr. Grabow Starfire 21, which is a gorgeous pipe in my opinion. I lost the bid... broke my heart. My girlfriend and I were going antique shopping later that day, and we waltzed into a antique shop and the first thing I saw was this incredibly dirty 20. I started talking to the lady about it, and she "told me" no one could clean that up, and make it smoke-able. So on top of losing a bid, she was questioning my abilities. Ooooh, that got me mad, so I haggled her price down 3 dollars, to make it 3 dollars ha, purchased it, went home, cleaned her up, smoked it, and took it back to the shop while smoking it outside the window for her to see. After I finished the bowl, I took it in and handed it to her. Said, "Looks clean to me", and grabbed it and walked out. Here's what she looks like.

Lol, as polite as that offer is Mr. Kaplan, I'm not attracted to "wrapped pipes". Unless it's sterling silver wrapped. Thanks though!
