In my 17 years i have yet to try or even smell a blend that uses tonquin. I guess this is what is applied to make a lakeland blend correct? I guess i will never know unless i try it, so what say you? What do you think of it?

Tonquin, oil from the Tonquin bean, is not the same as Lakeland essence.

Lakeland has a much more flowery type of taste, whereas tonquin is somewhere between black licorice and turpentine.

SG 1792 has tonquin and I've heard that Royal Yacht does, but I'm not sure I believe it.

Tonquin is a unique experience. I love Royal Yacht, but can take or leave 1792.

I have a little 1792 left. PM me your address and I will send you a sample.

Todd

Dark Flake Scented...
1792 Flake...
Braken Flake...

Plenty of options.

Todd, in all my years I've never held 5lb gold bars... Do you need me to send my address so you can scrap a few samples to mail me?

Good on ya for sending the man The Bean juiced weed.

I forget which, but something I really like has tonquin in it. Maybe G&H Louisiana Flake? Whatever it is, I like it. Only way to find out for sure is to try it.

I smoked a sample of 1792 a few years ago and never went back. Strong taste and weird flavor,,,but that's just me.

(what do I know) You'll only know if it's a keeper by lighting it up.

I like 1792 pretty well but only in very small doses. 1792 also has some other floral flavoring that gives off an almost Talc or baby powder like flavor.

If you're curious about Tonquin and don't feel like getting kicked in the teeth by nicotine, Sam's Flake has a good amount of it and according to S.G. it's the only flavoring used on it.

Tonquin seems to be a love it or hate it proposition. I too have read that Royal Yuck has tonquin in it, but I really can't tell myself. 1792 however is a frequent smoke when I'm in the mood for an arse whooping. I smoke both fairly regularly and am a Nic lightweight so.....try it and see. If its not to your tastes there are plenty of folks out there that I'm sure would be willing to trade you something more suitable.

Sam's Flake is a favorite of mine, several pounds (bulk) in Mason jars in my larder. But I find it has little of the tonquin taste, compared to others.

PM me your address and I'll send you some aged Sam's Flake to try. Wonderful stuff.

Natch

Tonquin is usually recognizable as a warm vanilla-like note in the flavor and aroma. I'm skeptical of the oft-repeated claim that Royal Yacht is flavored with tonquin. 1792 (which I very much enjoy) is probably the best-known specimen. I'll have to include a tin of Sam's Flake in my next order--sounds good with the oriental component.

Royal Yacht and tonquin and McC's Red Va's and ketchup, just show's folks will believe ANYTHING to be with the IN crowd !!

My dad tells me there used to be a pesticide called "Black Leaf 40". Said primary ingredient was nicotine and it was very effective at eliminating bugs from your garden. Although honestly I have to question the marketing wisdom of having "black leaf" in the name of a product designed for use in home gardens.

I first had Sam's Flake when Natch dropped a load of samples on me a couple years ago. I am assuming it was well aged as the Tonquin was just barely noticeable. Inspired by the sample, I ordered a tin, opened it right away and the Tonquin was much more prominent both in the tin note and the smoke. Aged and fresh samples both smoked great, but just like 1792, the Tonquin will dissipate with age.

Haven't had a chance to try it yet. Hope to get outside soon to try both 1792 and Sam's flake.
