I love the sweet, sweet taste of Red Cake 5100. I also love spicy Perique. I was looking for a blend which would give me both of these worlds and I've found it.

I've mixed Red Cake with granulated perique from 4noggins at a ratio of 8 to 2. It sat for 4 days before I sampled it.

I don't really know how to describe the result. The sweet virginia taste remains unaltered. The spicyness of the perique comes along evenly and without any insult to the virginias. Almost like eating ice cream with chocolate suice! The two ingredients compliments each other 100%. They belong together. I would recommend to every serious VaPer fan to try this mix. It's sooooo tasty!!

With Escudo, OGS, LNF, LBF, Prairie Wind and Bayou Morning in stock, I won't be smoking Red Perique Cake all the time though. I will keep it for a nice change of pace only as it comes at a price I can't really afford. But I never want to be without it ever again.

Unfortunately I only had 4oz of 5100 to use. And I've spent this months budget (and more) to buy 10 tins of Peterson Irish Oak. It was out of stock for a long time locally and I was craving for it like mad. My next order from 4noggins will be for some more 5100. Luckily I have enough perique already.

Sounds good to me, have you tried the ribbon cut Blending Perique, if you're lucky you can land the slightly moist and ever so slightly sticky version, the flavour is amazing and the slight excess moisture content works wonders for blending with drier blends allowing a better marrying when you compress the tobacco for a spell.

I've been using the granulated perique on recommendation of Rich at 4noggins. But your reasoning that tobacco which is slightly moist is more efficient makes so much sense that I will get some with my next order. I will then use granulated and ribbon cut (belt and braces!) for my next mix.

I thank you for your advice, my bro'

I don't know why but the ribbon cut blending Perique gets a lot of bad press, it is seriously hard work to blend into a mix is the biggest issue I guess, just tug it about when you're mixing it up is all I do. I then compress as much tobacco in a jar, making my thumbs ache for a few days I use that much pressure to compress by hand, after a 6 week marrying stage I take the blend back out of a Kilner jar (they're the UK's answer to Mason jars) and loosen it up to put back into additional Kilner jars to allow for the ageing to begin. It's at that stage you see the mixing up of the ribbon cut isn't so troubling, the tacky feel is gone and it is far more readily separated from the other strands, the blend is ready to rock after the 6 weeks but I'm trying to let some age now so I can experience what all the fuss is about with aged backy for myself.

This mixture is like fortified wine with a high alcohol content, sweet with a nice kick  :D

Oh yes, that's the ticket sure enough, very pleased you're enjoying it so well.

There's nothing better than finding the perfect mixture, especially when it is hand blended by yourself. This is the way things USED to be. At L J Peretti Co. They have a journal/register that contains tens of thousands PERSONAL blends for customers of their establishment which dates back over a hundred years.
Congrats there Speedy for finding your perfect Virginia/Perique blend it sounds pretty tasty.
Sorry to take your thread off on another tangent, but experimentation with ribbon cut and granulated cut tobaccos is always much fun to see which tobacco burns best and mixes best for marrying the flavors like BriarSpirit suggests.
Cheers.
