This place is getting BORING

I think the social media promotes conformity in thought, because there's only space for bumper sticker comment. If a poster doesn't completely agree with the prevailing simplified message point mentality, he / she is likely to be corrected (at least) or attacked by the mob. There's also an assumption that if two (or more) people look at the same facts, they should come to the same conclusion. Back in the day, people got over this notion in freshman year. The first Simpson trial was a good case in point.

Most of my freshmen don't learn it, but many do when they're sophomores . . . but then backslide during their senior year :D

Absolutely 100% demonstrably the case.

There's nothing different about today's humans, of course, social media technology simply makes certain types of expression/behavior extremely easy.

In previous times, "get-with-the-program-or-else" mob-rule mentality resulted in torches and pitchforks. The 21st century version is punishing people for perceived violations of Political Correctness. (and that shitshow is only now getting truly started)

Groupthink is the intellectual manifestation of mob mentality. Few of today's under-30's would dare to express an opinion without checking what their friends thought first. In fact, daring wouldn't even apply, because it would never occur to them to do it any other way.

You think BOB is boring, you should check a couple of other forums out, they'll put you to sleep.
I belong to a few forums and I've gotta say there are only two including BOB that are active in the respect that there's always someone replying to a post or starting a new thread and the only two I really care about. So when you think it's boring try another for awhile, you'll need NoDoz. ;)

Yeah. I once lost posting privileges on a well-known auto fan board. I hadn't committed any of the usual faux paus (sp) or even violated the rules of the board police. One of the key message points honored by the board's posters was "Cars are not appliances." My POV is that they are not appliances but they are machines and should be judged on how well they meet their purpose, not on the subjective appeal of styling features. The Grand Inquisitors might have interpreted this bland dissent as trolling. They never said exactly. Well, they own the board, I figgered.

Boring? All I can say is this forum is what you make of it. Some of our members just enjoy reading the content, and maybe they feel they don't have much to add after the topic has been dissected to death with nothing else to discuss,
but that doesn't make them any less of a brother. The point is that everyone here has a common interest in pipes whether they impress others with their whizbang review of the latest and greatest, or skim through the posts picking up a bit of information along the way that interests them.

It's always been that way and always will be. Members come and go. Lapses in active posting occur.

We've had a lot of new members join recently, some with years of experience and others just starting out, so maybe the lull some of you feel will turn around like it always has in the past.

Actually they very much are appliances, and should only be judged in light of how well they perform their givin application.

Some are appliances for transporting grocery.
Some are appliances for adrenaline seeking.
Some are appliances for getting stuck in remote locations.
Some are appliances for alleviating judgements concerning erection length & duration.

Bravo.

I get busy. When I get busy, I don't post. That's all.

Also, I don't talk as much as I used to...I mean, even up close and personal, face to face with people. I spend more time listening these daze. It's a good way of finding out whether it's even worth opening my mouth.

I do understand why you could say this place is boring but it is a boring in a good, peaceful, relaxing sort of way. It's like a calming pipe at the end of a hectic day. As others have written, there are plenty of places to get blood boiling content on the interwebs. I like that this place is mostly above the nonsense that seems to pervade that space these days.

I don't post much since I prefer to read or listen more than talk but I will try to add more to the discussions going forward. I want this place to continue to be an interesting and welcoming place for all pipe smokers.

I do appreciate those who do post more than I. They are glue that holds the forum together and keep the threads and discussions going. You folks are entertaining.

Sure, it's been a bit slow around here. But boring? Come on...

Maybe the OP needs another emoticon to play with?
