Monbla, Go join some Facebook pipe  groups. You can tell a whole new set of guys how you've been smoking 142 years and how your opinion is the only one that matters.
That was last year. He's up to 143 now.

Bull crap, if it was a year ago he's up to 194.

Bub, I'm far from the glue that holds the place together. Quite the contrary I spent a lot of years deliberately running people off. It was kinda my job to out ******* the ********. Of course I ran some off I didn't intend to, and haven't been able to run off some I have intended to... Anyway.
Guys like Pipetongue & TJ that have passed away were glue.. Guys like Gospelman & MikeM that have moved on were glue.. Guys like Carlos & Mark that are still very much here are glue.. Me? Not so much.

Regardless I'm too tired to really much care.. There's been a lot of heartache being involved in this board.. Old dudes smoke pipe, old dudes tend to pass on.. Guys like Kyle & pirate coming in and making a big splash just to disapprear..
Then there's stuff like Yak breaking my heart when he finally went to far to just say "it's yak" without admitting certain people were receiving preferential treatment.. That deal still bugs me but he did what he did and there's not much else to say about that.

Other than ride on Cart and Monblablabla I really don't have much to do here. I think I acquired 1 pipe last year, a beautiful gift from a beautiful friend.. I didn't acquire any tobacco, and didn't smoke much more than I acquired.. My stores of tobacco don't allow for silly **** like packing 'samples' in shoeboxes full of tobacco (I always thought that was hilarious) and with Zero Dollars coming in until I can get my day in court (I don't remember if I shared that with anyone besides Pdiddy) I won't be buying anything to share..

So, not glue, just tired and really kind of useless.

OK, would you settle for masking tape?

PB, don't sell yourself short my friend. While you may or may not be glue or masking tape your presence is greatly appreciated by at least some of us.

Jim

Pipers are mostly of an age when being bored can be be a welcome state of mind to be appreciated and savored, like a Henry James novel. Mr. Trump is not boring, but he and his mannerisms are not things that I would seek out, let alone adopt. His chronic agitation spreads a state of anxious delirium to those around him, producing the ambiance of an asylum. OTOH, my missus frequently thinks I've fallen asleep when she looks out on the deck and spies me in the company of one of my ancient billiards. In fact, we are sharing a moment of calm that approaches ecstasy. Excitable chatter boxes and advocates of this or that are not welcome.

Yes.. Masking tape. But the blue kind, not the tan kind.

Sometimes curmudgeons are moody, and sometimes they just forget things like their password. Give em' time to piss off the old lady, and if they have internet access in the dog house, they will be back pontificating on a worthwhile subject.

Ever since I got myself a trucking job, there are plenty of posts to read when I find time to get back on and do a little pontificating myself.

So is Monbla gone now? Can we finally all come back and start the party?

No, he's like socialism, regardless of how bad an idea it is it just doesn't seem to go away.

Interesting comments. For me personally, I tend to go on this site when I'm thinking of or when I'm having a pipe. I don't smoke all the time although love it when I do. So, because I've been inside renovating the kitchen for a month and was sick for a while with the flu late last year (I couldn't even think of a smoke and a scotch for months after that - weird), I have not thought much about coming here. Also, I'm on the internet to look stuff up or answer emails and check Facebook, (which I really find is wasting a lot of my time but keeps me in contact with friends I have moved away from). After that I just get tired of being on the computer, or my wife gets tired of me being on the computer and don't get to checking up on this site.

When I do check in I tend to do so for a while then I get distracted and disappear for a while.

Anyway, that's my piece... and BTW if my wife doesn't get, (justifiably) impatient with me being on the computer so long tonight, I might put a piece on the Round Table about the renovation of my 1940'2 kitchen.

Lets ask the professionals:
The painters tape I've seen is blue. The idea behind it is that it can still be easily removed after some time has passed. The regular masking tape can be extremely difficult to cleanly remove after a few days. But the trade off is not worth it. The blue tape does not hold as clean an edge for the paint application. Regular masking tape works much better.

Since we all know that PB holds a clean edge the proof is in the tape

Threaded forums killed off the pre-www UseNet groups, and now Twatter, SnipChit, BookFace, InstaGranny, and etc. are killing off threaded forums.

It's just time & technology doin' the same thing it has always done:

https://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=forum%20growth

https://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=forum

https://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=online%20forum

The pipe smoking demographic being skewed toward older guys then adds a multiplier to the Netwide forum erosion.

Regardless of the trends in "social media" (gawd I hate that buzz-word) which seem to be the media-du-jour, I do what I know and am comfortable in. Like this forum, plus one or two others. If the movement to FB, twit-er, candygram, and whatever else interests folks and they move on, so be it.

This forum seems to chug along pretty well and attracts new members pretty regularly. They don't always stick around, but that's the nature of things I reckon. People start doing different things with their life, have other priorities come in, family issues, health issues, and so on.

And the beat goes on............

Cheers,

RR

I have tried the Fakebook thing, mainly out of a need for the promotional aspects of the work I was doing. Never really enjoyed the "social" aspect of it. A forum like this has a better vibe to it for me.

I do have a book face, so that my family in other states can see pics of my kids and such. When I was single, it was very effective for meeting local women lol. Amongst the men in my family, for the most part social media is the women's domain now that we have kids. I do like it here though, it's not so busy as the book is. I don't like getting hammered with everybody's nonsense constantly on there. As for all those others, I have heard of them.
