I usually don't go for novelty pipes, but this one grabbed me. I'm guessing this was someone's souvenir from a trip to Japan in the 1950's or 1960's. And, they smoked it!

Very cool Harlock! Is it lined with Meerschaum or anything?? It looks like there is a fissure of some sort along the shank, might not be a good idea to smoke it if thats the case.

On a side not, some of the older Japanese products after WW2 were labeled "Made in Occupied Japan". One of my bo-in-laws has a tea set markes as such. Those ought to be collectable items now.

It actually has a metal bowl lining! And there is a crack on the shank, but I figured this would be more a conversation/display piece anyway.

Man, that looks like a one of a kind PAD. I didn't even know that you were allowed to acquire ivory products, even old ones. That's a beauifully carved piece of art.

Congrats.

I got to stop look at all these pipes, because Im a gettin' a hankerin'.

This was supposed to be the "pipeless year", concentrating my limited war chest on tobacco only. Anyhow, picked up not one, but TWO estates on fleabay this wknd. I know, I know.....

....it´s that Paypal makes is so damn EASY!!!

Wow. That is a gorgeous piece of carved ivory. I really like the blue eye detail on the dragon. That is quite a fortunate acquisition! Congrats. I hope it begins many a conversation around the house and at shows. ;)

New to this forum so bear with... I was recently going through some of my father old stuff... he passed about 8 years ago and I still find suprises in his old stuff... anyway I found this exact same pipe in some of his old stuff, only unused/unsmoked and in pristine condition. All I know for sure is that he was in the US Navy before I was born and did visit Japan in about 1959.... Very interesting... Value anyone?

This one was in rough shape, and sold for about $50. I've seen some nicer ones attract bids in the $200-$300 range.

I have to agree, that is a sweet addition to your collection! 8)

This is awsome - and I usually don´t like those figural designs. But this one really shows some style.

Congrats and greetings
Thilo

Great find. Old ivory like that is becoming harder and harder to come by, as it's the only ivory that one can "legally" obtain.....there is some antique caveat that allows the legal trade of ivory that is certain age.

Again, congrats!
