Got my orders today from Pipesandcigars.com

Sigh....................

One of the tobaccos I had ordered was obviously mislabeled. A half pound of something really wrong. Supposed to be black, came aromatic and multicoloured, mostly blonde....

I called. Sent a picture, the new stuff next to what I had. Same labels. Way different. The service rep. assured me she would talk to Russ and get it straightened out. An email just arrived and she said Russ told her that variances occur, and told me there was nothing to amend.

So, I order a Cavendish and get a blonde weed, and that's just how it goes?

How do you say........

W
T
F??

It seems obvious that if this is the manner of what is called consistency now, it's time to start raking my yard and smoking whatever turns up..

No, the Wiz is not pleased. Not pleased at all.............

Thank you for letting me rant

Ya, there seems to be a fair bit of issue with them with regard to orders. Problems with mis-delivered products, stuff on back order when it looked like it was available, terrible packaging, and so on.

I can only offer that when I've dealt with them (once or twice) they've been fine in all regards. If that puts me in the minority then so be it.

Not trying to defend or recommend them. Just my few humble experiences.

FWIW as always.......

Cheers,

RR

One of my first orders with them was for a pound of Amphora Red Match. What I got was nothing like Amphora Red. Now that I have tasted Troost Aromatic Cavendish, I realize that is what I was actually sent. I figured it was an outrageously bad match, and I found folks here at BoB to give it to. Orders since have been fine...

Sounds like they're not the folks to order bulk tobacco from. Shame as they have a huge selection. Or maybe that's the problem... :suspect:

It's the risk of buying online, or as Joe Peski said it in the movie Lethal Weapon, "They **** you in the drive thru"...

Generally, if there is something awry with an online purchase, you can ship it back or exchange it or something. The problem with bulk blends is that they have no assurance that you have not tampered with the product. I get it.

I guess my idea of good business practices is going out of style. There was just so much confusion going on with the order. I place the order, they send a confirmation. Next day, they send an email saying it shipped. Next day, an email saying the shipment is backordered. Next day, I had a phone conversation and was told, no, one item was back ordered, but the rest shipped. I got a good tracking order. Tracked it. Day before it arrived got an email saying they had trouble charging my account and the items were NOT shipped. Checked with my bank and saw they tried to bill me twice. Called them again, They said there was a computer error, not to worry. Today, the box shows up, short the back ordered item, and a half pound of a light aromatic blend rather than Hearth and Home Obsidian...""" An all-black mixture of exacting proportions to balance the flavors well enough that the individual components become indistinguishable, Obsidian is sweet, smoky and spicy without being overpowering. Stoved Virginia, Latakia, toasted black Cavendish and Perique combine for a unique and cool smoking experience."""   What I got is more like Sutliff Champagne,"""Champagne is a lightly aromatic blend of premium bright Virginias, mild white Burley and Sutliff's signature black Cavendish. The mixture is then married with a subtle and slightly tangy fruit note for a one-of-a-kind experience""""

Not too easy to confuse in my mind, or eyes.

I sent pictures to show them, no joy........

Shame on you Russ, shame........

Well, back to my own blends and B&M shops.

Sorry you had to find out the hard way. There are many other tobacconists online that out perform P&C without even breaking a sweat. Again, I would not send my enemy to P&C............they'd probably hire him. I reckon Russ has the attitude that his s**t doesn't stink so you'll purchase from him no matter how he treats his customers.

Do you have any recommendations?

Gees, where do I start? Smoking pipes.Com is where I purchase most of my tobacco but, there are many many others. Just Google pipe tobacco and you'll come up with a fist full.
I'm sure others here can add to the list also. ;)
4Noggins, Cup O' Joes etc.
BTW Cigars International is owned by P&C so ya might want to steer clear of them too. ;)

Well that sucks.

Someone was complaining about them sending Stanwell pipes without the filter adapters. Their excuse was saying they never said they'd send one with the pipe.

:crazy

I second Cart on the smokingpipes.com..

Marscigars.com is also an awesome dude, it's a single dude shop so customer service is also the sales clerk, shipping clerk, Floor manager, accounts receivable, purchasing agent, and CEO.  LOL.

We have a links section about halfway down the category list with many useful shopping links.. I deleted P&C.com tonight, that's just one to many unresolved screw ups reported on this forum for me to keep their name up there.

I don't agree that buying online = risky.   Amazon is the 800lb gorilla of the online world and I've had nothing but positive experiences overall.  That's not to say they have been perfect ... but when I had issues they were handled quickly and to my satisfaction.   I've experienced the same with most other online shops over the past 20 years.

But I do find it amazing that a retailer, in this age of instant, planet-wide networking, would tell a customer that their satisfaction means nothing.   To me that's just stupid business ... and I don't support stupidity.

To reiterate, nothing wrong with online ordering. From what I've gathered, out of the "major" pipe players P&C is the worst with customer service, orders, packaging, stock, quality, etc. But so far my experience has been good.

If you have a high end credit card that you used for your purchase, contact them. I've had refunds from my companies and have kept the product, one of which is another story.

Please contact me directly at [email protected]. I was confused about the picture I saw based on the description I was given by customer service. If you received the bag in the front of the photo, and that was supposed to be Stoved Black Virginia, then it's obviously wrong. In fact, that is probably McClelland 5100. One way or the other, I'll make sure that it's taken care of to your satisfaction. I'm sorry for the inconvenience and miscommunication.

Russ

Thanks for the opportunity to get this straightened out Russ, I will get my notes together and email you later today.....

(Yah, I keep notes and emails, I like reference materials, and it's good for me to track myself...)

I understand the issues of communication deficits through the chain.

I've ordered from them quite a bit, only one bulk blend and mostly tins and even a couple pipes. Should have an order of cigar humidor liquid and cigars arriving today. Never had a problem, but now I'm worried about ordering bulk from them, and may start doing most of my business elsewhere.

I've also had no problem with smokingpipes.
