I just picked up The Wind in the Willows after seeing it recommended on a Malcolm Guite video. Not a story that I grew up with, and I’d never read it before.

Next will likely be either The Whiskey Rebels by David Liss or The Wager by David Grann. I’m trying to work through more of my collection, but I still have a habit of buying books more quickly than I can read them.
My parents used to read me that book, translated in catalan, when I was a kid! I have ordered it in english and I’ll read it hopefully soon, since I also tend to buy books quicker than I can read them… Lovely book!

I am glad because I have finally reached the english level required to re-read my favourite books in their original language. I bought a nice edition of The hobbit, LOTR and The silmarillion, and I am halfway through The two towers right now. I have read those books twice in spanish and God knows how many times in catalan… But I am enjoying them like it was the first time I read them!

Just finished the first book in the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown. Enjoyed it so will be looking to purchase the remaining books.

Now starting The Indifferent Stars Above: The Harrowing Saga of the Donner Party by Daniel Brown.

Thomas Pakenham, The Boer War- Illustrated Edition, Random House (1993)
He narrates the war including useful color maps of major battles, the between 18000 and 26000 mainly Boer women and children dying from disease in 45 British concentration camps and the plight of the 100,000 black Africans who served both the British and the Boer armies, finally explaining the political victory of the Boers, (Lost the war but won the Peace), with far reaching consequences for Europe and South Africa, basically setting the stage for The first World War.
The book is out of print, I obtaining it through InterLibrary Loan. Ebay shows several copies ranging from $7 to $36.

My great grandfather fought in the Boer war. My mother used to tell about him. Made him crazy.

Thanks for the review. I need to pick this one up.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote a history also.
