I made three pretty big mistakes on my first homemade pipe. First was sawing into the air hole. Second was taking too much material off of the shank so the saddle stem is bigger than the outside diameter of the shank. Third I took too much material off of the bottom of the bowl and broke into the tobacco hole when I was filing. I don't quit on a pipe, so I'm filling the hole in the bottom of the bowl with pipe mud and sealing it with epoxy.

Pretty sorry first attempt, but I did love doing it. I'll see if I can smoke it, and go from there. They say color inside the lines, but be sure to cut outside the lines!

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, steelhead trout and green beans dinner with strawberries for dessert. I'm nearing the half way mark on this bowl of Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation Evening Flake in a smooth medium bend 2021 Peterson Ebony POTY 4AB No. 422/500 military mount with a silver cap and a tapered black vulcanite AB stem. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

I'm happy, I think my new pipe is smokable. The walls are too thin everywhere but it has a nice open draw and when I cover the tobacco hole it's pretty tight. I plan to smoke it on Saturday after I come back from playing. Pics tomorrow 😜

Last smoke of the day is 2017 Watch City Deluxe Crumb Cut in a 2016 Peretti's M.T. Natural made in Holland straight smooth brown Algerian briar billiard with a tapered black acrylic stem. Fed the ferals, and Sleepy Suzy and Molly Danger.

I find that making mistakes is the best way to learn something... That's what I tell myself anyways! Some 220 grit sandpaper will take that stem down to the right diameter in no time!
