I started raising birds and rabbits for the table a little over 10 years ago after seeing how birds are raised and processed for the supermarket. Last year we decided to raise Barred Plymouth Rocks again. The first clutch was all females and we couldn't get a straight run until late summer. When we sorted them all into two flocks we had too many roosters but I decided to keep them until spring. We're in the process of choosing two roosters for each flock. I've been saving eggs to incubate and will start some chickens and turkeys this weekend. We're also going to start raising ducks again!

Barred Rocks are a handsome looking bird too. You must have a bucolic little acreage, like English cottage country.

I raised turkeys to pay for part of my Univeristy costs, 500 of them one year, free range. Beaks and claws are no nonsense. We rarely had the birds long enough for them to become aggressive. One Tom was still around in late November, strutting and puffing through the barnyard, with a four inch beard. He dressed out at 39lbs. He had to be frozen and band sawed in half so we could cook him, only half would fit in the oven at a time. I wish I had pictures because it sounds like a Paul Bunyan story.

With story telling in mind, I'll have Mark Twain in the Legend and quietly finish my coffee.

Good morning my friends. My own Tumbleweed in a Pete Pub with CR morning coffee. Surveying the landscape to determine the best way to install the electric fence so it won't be noticeable to the HOA. Also have to reset the bridge support slabs. Damn javelina knocked them out the other night and now the bridge isn't stable. Have a great day everyone.

Are the Javelina ever-present? Is this a regular problem, perhaps seasonal or have they appeared recently? When I have problems with excess deer or coyotes on the golf course I look to see where they're coming from. The course is surrounded by affluent properties. I often find a local property owner has begun feeding the deer so they have a pretty yard, and of course the coyotes follow. There may be an underlying cause for your Javelina problem that isn't related to your property.

Prince Albert and Carter Hall are on my "try soon" list. Unfortunately I can only see them for purchase in 14oz tubs. SWR, Granger, Velvet, Borkum Riff original and Captain Black original are also there. I've been very pleased with H&H. This will likely be a tasting project over several years, my storage is full at the moment. It's good to have goals, it keeps a hobby fresh.

Enjoyed a tall stack of cinnamon raisin French toast with unsalted peanuts and a golden delicious apple for lunch. I've a third of a bowl left of year 2000 VaPer Three Nuns in a 1938 straight black grain relief Dunhill OX Shell bulldog with a silver band repair with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Lavazza Classico, neat, is my drink.

Javelina are common in Arizona throughout the entire state. They are considered big game and can be hunted but only for one month of the year. An OTC tag is available for $25, but only for HAM, handgun, archery, or muzzle loaders. They can be aggressive and will attack dogs, even large ones. My neighbor's Australian Shepherd was seriously injured by Javelina and required surgery. Mainly they are just a PITA but can be very destructive.
