    After every smoke

I do his 1-second stretching routine every morning. Steve

    Trever Talbot pipes

At that price you're talking about his Ligne Bretagne pipes. I have two of them and the workmanship is excellent, the bits are comfortable, and they're good smokers. I love 'em both. A word of warning though - pay close attention to the dimensions of the pipes, which he describes on his web...

    Smoking in Films

. Can't say this one is my favorite, but it's worth a viewing. Also, I can't say he's exactly smoking that pipe! . .

    3 for $52.99 on pipesandcigars

I would expect briar, but that's about all. There can be a pipe that smokes well in the bunch, but its a crap shoot. If I were spending that amount, I would use it to buy one mid-grade estate pipe. Steve

Beautiful set of two on Ebay

    Nosewarmers

. The rustication on those Posellas remind me of the fruiting body of a morel mushroom. This lightweight nosewarmer by David Johnson is my favorite. More often he turns out what I would call "almost-nosewarmers", and I've bought a handful of those. A nosewarmer appeals to me if the bowl is...

What makes a pot a pot?

What if it's chicken salad? Steve

    What are you listening to?

No. I entered the U of M in 1972 and was directed by Bencriscutto in marching band music practices and the marching annual indoor concerts, and by Asst. Directors in one of the ordinary concert bands (euphonium). Steve

    What are you listening to?

. MisterE, at least, should appreciate this one. I am presently recording it to MP3 tracks. This double album features the program of an historic tour of the Soviet Union (under Leonid Brezhnev) by the University of Minnesota Concert band Ensemble directed by Frank Bencriscutto. Many...

    Tetrad of White Bar pots

About the photographs, under that sheepskin pad is the steering wheel of my car. I park at some angle to the sun that makes for indirect lighting, or else choose an overcast day, then drape the pad between my torso and the steering wheel and shoot away. Having this neutral background helps...

Can anyone help me with this pipe?

More confirmation about the connection with Larsen. http://www.pipephil.eu/logos/en/logo-j1.html Steve

    Ardor Mercurio

I find it hard to stop looking at that. Its gorgeous. Steve

    Scratch eraser?

. I've seen that buffing can reduce a dent in briar. The guy who reconditions my pipes expained that his method is to buff the spot until friction warms and expands the wood under the dent. It rebounds only partially, leaving the dent reduced compared to before the buffing. I do not know if...

Closeup lens test - Shure M97xE phono cartridge

. Just testing a close-up lens and thought I'd share it. Not too bad maybe, for a $50 lens. I just received the phono cartridge and have not used it yet. Steve . .

    olive oil

It seems more likely that antioxidants in olive oil would be the larger source of O2 protection relative to other vegetable oils. If a physical O2 barrier were the the important factor, then any vegetable oil would provide the same protection. Olive oil is higher in polyphenol antioxidants...

    Tetrad of White Bar pots

. ...at least I think they're pots. Maybe they're fat billiards? Some time ago I took an Ebay chance on these four Wally Frank White Bars. Someone had heated the stems and bent the four of them sharply with pliers - about like in the first photo. There were tool marks impressed in the...

The origins of standard shape names

Recently I showed a poker to a friend. The first thing he did was grasp it in his fist with the stem pointing away from him. He began making jabbing motions with it, saying he understood how it came to be called a "poker". That may be, but then there's the game of poker, the poker fireplace...
