    Mold in tobacco jars.

The rule is if it's crystalline, it's sugar and ok; if fuzzy, it's mold and not ok. But I don't know what "bloom" is, and it occurs on pipe tobacco as well as cigars. Bloom is ok, but I don't know how to differentiate it from mold. I'm sure there is information about it on the internet. Most of...

    The Volcano shape....Love? Hate?

I used to love the concave volcano, stopped loving them, and now they're just ok. I prefer them if they're crossed with a poker, that is straight, sloping sides. Ah hell, I just like beautiful pipes!

    Happy National Cat Day!

Michael, congratulations on the taming. I didn't know that ferals can be socialized. A woman in an apartment complex where I I once lived adopted about a dozen that were living, or had the ill fortune to have fallen into, a storm sewer. They pe-ed here apartment up handsomely and she never did...

Jers Churchwarden Lands in NC after Perilous Sea Voyage!

Several weeks ago I was enquiring what tricks others have for keeping the smoke out of their eyes when smoking a pipe, pointed downward, while reading. Jers took it upon himself to offer a Cellini churchwarden, free, as well as free postage from one of those Brittanic Islands, I don't know...

    Other Posters

There is no end to the offense we can, if so inclined, take about what another member posted and what we think such posts say about us. "It's a public forum" and as such we feel fully and shamefully exposed. For instance there is a member whose posts regularly bother me--arrogant, condescending...

    A Case of Glad Latakia

    Cob/Wood Glue

Reporting that vegetable oil removed the glue! A wad of paper towel with the oil and various instruments to rub it against the bottom. 3 or 4 reasonable applications to do the job. Thanks to Jers for the solution!

    A Case of Glad Latakia

Only during the first year or two of my pipe smoking career have I ever smoked latakia regularly. Then I pretty much stopped smoking it at all, and I made no serious effort to understand that smoky palate again until a year ago. But as I knew I was probably missing out, I dropped what was for me...

    Comoy's Cask #4 review

STG's Cask #7 also looks interesting, by recipe the same as Davidoff Flake Medallions except for that little "something extra" they are fond of for tobaccos of this class. I'm betting its well-done, in which case it would be something quite a bit cheaper than the Davidoff or Escudo; all good news!

    Comoy's Cask #4 review

I like lots of Perique; I even love Cool Hand Fluke, which is 40%. And then that the tobacco is predominantly bright VA sounds interesting. Thanks Michael!

Latakia, You're bumming me out man!

My condolences to any pipe smoker not able to indulge because of any malady<img class="emojione" alt="??" title="" src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/emojione/assets/png/1f1f3-1f1f4.png?v=2.2.7"/>

Just got the first ever complaint from the wife

Given the absolutes, a wife or tobacco, I'd be hard-pressed to choose, but I suppose I would lean toward the wife. Now I hate smoking outside, but I'd probably would do so, or have a dedicated room, etc, etc. I think the answer lies in finding a wife who smokes. Then she can't complain that you...

    Montecristo New York

A friend presented me with this cigar, and oh! my! Definitely one of the very best cigars I've smoked. Choice, aged tobacco, very smooth, medium flavors in the first third gradually ramping up through the second, becoming full, with caramel and chocolate notes in the final. For some reason I...

    pipesandcigars Hearth and Home Sale

I'd say that this is one of those killer deals that you take out a second mortgage on to get the cash to buy heavy. But then again I am known to buy heavy in any event;).

    pipesandcigars Hearth and Home Sale

Simple Man sent me four samples along with the Edwards I bought from him, Classic Burley Kake among them. When I put them on my desk the aroma from one of them was quite strong, even though in the bag, which turned out to be the burley. The odor subsided after 48 hours. Smoking it this morning I...

    pipesandcigars Hearth and Home Sale

pipesandcigars once more has the same sale on Hearth&Home tobacco as listed in my first post to this thread. I'm budgeting $200.00; that's 6 pounds, plus 3 free, or 9 lbs @ $22/pound. Not bad! And I was smoking the Classic Burley Kake this morning--tasty burley with complexity. I got some cigar...
