A few more samples tried this evening...

C&D Evening Rise - only a bowl or two left, getting pretty dry - carefully sampled with a tiny meer, two bowls later and this one is on the "few tins for the cellar" list. Very nice burley based latakia blend - similar in character to a morning blend.

Dunhill Royal Yacht - Just a bit left of this one also, also quite dry, but the blend delivered - a mild sweet smoke - I can see why some cellars have a good sized stack of it. Only took one bowl in a sampling meer to get the story here, and the story is worth hearing again :)

McClelland Bombay Court - nearly a full tin, still moist - nice, but unremarkable oriental - perhaps a few more bowls would win me over but nothing to lure me in. With so many samples ahead I am moving on

Dan Tobacco Galway - nearly full, a bit dry - an aromatic, not to my liking - fan of the flautist though :)

Selected Bufflehead Common Teal to end the night and some tinned EMP for the morning, both in decent quantity and of good moisture level - breaking out the full sized bowls for these...

You're really killing me here posting up pictures of all that great variety, and knowing I can't get in on the pass this year..highly frustrating to say the least.

I got included on the box pass on another pipe forum and got the box yesterday with 13 baggies about 1oz. each. I am adding another 13 baggies myself to double the size of it. It would be alot more fun adding my stash to this incredible array of tobacco.

Enjoy and be grateful you got on the list it time. :|

Pics of samplings and pipes thus far...

PD is next on the list, and next to last.

----

Todays smokes quick rundown:

Common Teal finished up last night and EMP from the tin started the morning

Kismit, Uhle's #71, Veermaster, Shortcut to mushrooms during the day

Sherlock Holmes and Stonehaven set aside to finish the night

Revelation set aside for morning

- will post details when I get some time tomorrow..

Just doing my part :)

a bevy of tastings - all quite nice - Uhle's 71 and Revelation being of special note...

Uhle's #71 - great burley based latakia mix
boxpass17.png

Shortcut to Mushrooms - interesting aromatic
boxpass18.png

some Sherlock Holmes, in a calabash (of course :))
boxpass19.png

rounded out the night with some Stonehaven
boxpass20.png

started the morning with some Revelation - Einstein was smart to pick up on this blend, but had he discovered Peretti's...
boxpass21.png

some Tudor Castle in my favorite VaPer pipe - very nice flake - not tops of my VaPer list, which is not surprising since it contains orientals :) but deserving a bit of shelf space
boxpass22.png

followed by some 2045 - interesting light english
boxpass23.png

C&D Red Odessa - a little sharp and cigar-like, but a standout nonetheless - lots of flavor here

next up this evening: C&D Three Friars and Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky (the last remnants)

This is going to really cause a stir, but I found a post on another board claiming..

Better sit down for this one folks...

"Most sources say that he smoked House of Windsor - Revelation exclusively, However, in a few articles it was mentioned that he on occasion smoked HOW - Country Doctor and Middleton - Walnut, but by far his tobacco of choice was Revelation."

yup - he also smoked Walnut :)

Revelation is no longer available - but it has been rumored to be coming back... long rumored :)

since I cannot get in on this box pass,  :x does anyone on here have a sample they could send me?

You can find Revelation on ebay pretty often - not much left in the box unfortunately (perhaps a pipeful and a half left)

The real crime here is that I am in the middle of a bowl of Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky, which was the last bowl :( DSK is fan-friggin-tasktic and also no longer available and not often seen :(

Follow up - I have read that Peter Heinrich Dark Strong Flake is close if not identical and grabbed up a few tins...

To add to the above: C&D's Epiphany is said by some to be a fair replacement for the old Revelation.

Finishing the night with Three Friars - a surprise stand out, seems to be equally sweet and peppery - worth trying if you've been avoiding this three nuns homage...

Unfortunately not - the listing for the tobacco is there, but no purchase button - out of stock for some time now. Many vendors leave the listings up long after the tobacco is gone :(

Getting near the end now - about a dozen samples left to go through today and tomorrow - will have the box on it's way on Monday or Tuesday.

Samplings from yesterday and today...

Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky - superb in every way
boxpass25.png

C&D Three Friars - a nice one
boxpass26.png

Dunhill London Mixture - nice
boxpass27.png

GL Pease Odyssey - this blend still eludes me
boxpass28.png

Boswell's Premium Burley - too mild for my liking
boxpass29.png

H&H Old Companion - no friend of mine :)
boxpass30.png

Plumbcake - pleasant
boxpass31.png

Dominican Maduro - quite nice
boxpass32.png

H&H Marble Kake - nope, not for me...
boxpass33.png

Walnut - circa 1970 - really wanted to like this one - didn't happen :(
boxpass34.png

Boswell Dan's Blend - nice - but not as nice as Christmas Cookie - sort of a mild version
