Last year I bought this pipe:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/180777639968?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

I paid about $50 for it unsmoked, and I liked it for the most part, but the bit was really chunky and started to bug me. I eventually sold it on EBAY for about $30. Well, it seems that the same EBAY pipe dealer who sold it to me is the same person who later bought it back from me. Now, as a used estate pipe, it just sold for $92!

Dude, that's weird, lol. Maybe a time of year sorta thing? More people bidding around the holidays etc. Hard to imagine a smoked pipe fetching a better price than unsmoked.

That's happened to me too. Sometimes it just takes two people that want it bad enough to bring the price up. I've seen two identical items one with a buy it now $35 and another with a $9.99 starting bid. The $9.99 ends up going for around $50 while no one even looks at the buy it now one, except ME!

It seems that alot of pipes are going for alot more since I started smoking a pipe. All my pipes are from ebay and as time has gone by, Pipe prices keep creeping up. One of my best Savinellis I got with a cool stand for $15. A 614 in bad shape goes for alot more now . Too many folks wanting them and biding early driving the price up. Even starting bids are getting high on alot of them.

I think all the prices on eBay are to high lately.

I have watched several freehand pipes this past month
sell for under 60 bucks and show up a week later
(and twice with the same photo from the ended auction an hour later)
with buy it now at 145 bucks or more.

Ebay is changing for the worst, yes there is a deal
once in a while, but for the most part it is just turning
into a online second hand shop with price tags already set
to start at half what the pipe cost new on sale.
It's a shame really for the whole estate pipe market.

Guess I am grumpy cause I keep getting distracted
and forgetting to bid on my watch items till auction
is over.

Maybe I should sell my ben wade.... It is my favorite design but least favorite smoker.

...although today, there were some unbelievable deals going on. Prices of Petersons have been practically new prices for used pipes. I don't get it. eBay is a freakshow.

I'm sure there is an adrenaline flow factor, similar to gambling for some folks. Add to that the competitive human nature and you have the recipe for nutty. :suspect:

It's phenominal how the holiday season makes people spend happy and it's not just gift shopping. I am always amazed at black Friday and how shopping malls are packed to the gills with shoppers on this particular day.

Ok, here's another one:

These Sasieni 5Dot pipes seem to usually sell for between $50-$100 bucks on ebay. I've got a few of them, one cost $59, and another with a silver band set me back $79. Anyway, the pipe in the above link does not seem any different from the ones I've accumulated, yet this one sold for triple the price I normally associate with this type of pipe. Now of course Coopersark's reputation is the biggest part of this equation, but still, what makes people bid like this?

It's 2012 and the Mayan calendar is suggesting all of the pipes are going to ascend to the heavens ala Hitchhiker's Guide. "So long, and thanks for all the smokes." 8)

It's the same as people spending as much on a burnt-out Peterson as they would a new one from Ireland.

Perhaps it's people who don't know their "dots". Shit, at that price you could get a family era Four Dot.....
Amen to that !! But that's why it's real name is "E-Prey" :p
