It's out of stock again.

Ooops. Well, it lasted a couple hours. :)
Carlos, Thanks for the heads up. I missed out on the first run but thanks to you I was able to order 4 tins this afternoon. I've been dying to try this blend the moment I read about it on Greg's site. Funny how this new blend has captured everyone's interest.

Thanks again, Dan

Back in stock according to smokingpipes website as of the time of this post...got my two tins.

Do you think the "powers that be" sit back and have a giggle watching us grasping for things that may be purposely meant to be elusive? Not to imply that that is the case with the Jack/Plug, but the idea has been floated by some on the forum.

Man, have you seen the video of the C&D factory? If you ask me, it's amazing that they produce as much as they do. Think about how rare it is to see someone smoking a pipe or run into another pipesmoker. If you ask me, it's amazing that we have as much readily available pipe tobacco as we do. Think about all the laws designed to make it difficult to produce, distribute and sell tobacco. If you ask me, it seems amazing that we can get any at all, much less the thousands of blends that we all have access to. Seems to me that it's kinda foolish to think there is any kind of tobacco conspiracy. Seems to me more like a tobacco miracle.

The cellaring rush to avoid eventual lack of product is causing lack of product,,,,,ironic

Lol. Fortunately, some of us still have an old rotary phone hanging on the wall
"Ob" I have 4 Western Electric 500's in various colors from the 50's in service in my house, all restored to perfection.

Back to Jackknife plug, by my count Smokingpipes has had 3 shipments, and they all sold out rather quickly. Its hard to say whats fueling the "shortage", I think its a perfect
storm of conditions that will hopefully not last long.

It is indeed a perfect storm of sorts. There was/is no market manipulation happening at any time. The quantity of tobacco in the first production run was no different than any of the blends that preceded it. But it DID get talked about more than usual just before release---probably because of the plug form + it contained something Greg had never used before (a high percentage of dark fired leaf)---and the Internet did the rest. Panic buying/bank runs/etc. are a product of communication, and the better the communication the greater the chance of one happening. (Ever heard of a "flash mob"? Welcome to the 21st century http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_mob )

The bummer, of course, is the JackKnife run will likely continue for several more iterations of instant-shelf-clearing, and Greg and C&D will increasingly be blamed by those smokers who become frustrated. Which isn't just unfair, it is irrational. Nothing was done differently for JackKnife than was done for the many blends introduced before it; and predicting "hits" is no more possible with tobacco blends than it is for music, movies, fashion, or children's Christmas toys.

Sort of like when the Hunt brothers tried to corner the silver market ! In 10 years, I doubt that these fellows who are stocking up will get the $ 100 a tin at pipe shows that they are planning pn !! C&D will crank it out, and the market will re-equilibrate.
