Rating your pipes

Found out yesterday that the Design Berlin I ordered from Germany won't be here till late Feb or early March. Has to do with the covid and German airmail. Guess I won't be buying any pipes from Europe for a while.

Found out yesterday that the Design Berlin I ordered from Germany won't be here till late Feb or early March. Has to do with the covid and German airmail. Guess I won't be buying any pipes from Europe for a while.

Woah, bummer. I could understand days or even a couple weeks delay but that seems excessive. And I'm literally planning on making an order with Al Pascia today. I guess I'd rather endure a long wait than miss getting a pipe I really want. Anyhow, hope you get yours sooner than later!

Just re-watched a video by Jeff at J. Alan pipes on mouthpieces and he seems to have the same exact experience I do with mouthpieces. I haven't got my caliper out yet, but six of my seven A+ all have saddle bit stems. My Mastro de Paja and the two Armellinis I'm selling are all tapered acrylic stems which are slightly thicker. But that just addresses the comfort issue, there are still other issues that make for a great smoker. Anyway, can't recommend enough Jeff's videos on pipemaking, I'm learning quite a lot!

Yea, the guy gave me a story about German airmail going by boat due to covid restrictions. Doesn't make any sense to me. People handle the package no matter how it's shipped. How is going by boat any safer than by aircraft??? Oh well, guess it will get here when it gets here. What did you order from Al Pascia?

Was deciding whether or not to sell a Savinelli Roma Lucite. It failed its test Wednesday, and before that it has always been lackluster. Then this morning it finally found a blend it likes: Country Squire Cowboy Coffee. This pipe has no serious faults, just nothing really shined in it these last few years. I was feeling like Prefect Pontius Pilatus: "I find no fault in thee..."

So if this has always been an "8" pipe and with the one right blend a "9" I have to say that all of my top "10" pipes have been stellar performers from the very first bowl. There was never any doubt. So, the one YouTube piper who had a pipe for twenty years that he never liked until he found the one magical blend, now he loves it, I can only think of all the disappointing bowls along the journey. Anyway, I don't have the patience anymore for boring or lackluster smoking sessions, but luckily this Savinelli has found redemption!

Have to admit one reason why I held on to it is because when I bought it the female salesperson said "my that's a handsome pipe." I know, they're encouraged to say something nice and flattering to the customer, but I never forgot it. I assume she was talking about the Savinelli . . .
