The High Kings are a way great traditional Irish ensemble, with very strong vocal abilities. And the arrangements are powerful and well arranged. I've enjoyed them for some years now.
This album is a compilation of their best tunes from all their albums, and comes highly recommended if your tastes run in this direction.
I've had the good fortune to see them live, and I can attest that their Acapella vocal harmonies are as perfect and pure as on their recordings.

Listening to some old time Mountain Music streaming through Pandora on my new iPad and I’m listening through a set of Sony MDR - 8500 headphones. Mostly the old hymns and Gospel songs of my youth being played on dulcimer, hammered dulcimer, autoharp, mandolin, guitar, banjo, fiddle, and string bass bring back fond memories of family that have passed away. Truly a wonderful experience while relaxing on a Sunday afternoon surrounded by family and enjoying some aged Pebblecut in a favorite pipe. Even though we’re under a tornado watch life can be good.

Just got this in-
Big Loreena McKennit fan here. Caught her show several years ago and she didn't disappoint. Sounded exactly as good live as on her recordings.
This new album is equal to anything she's put out in the past. Some may argue that her material sounds too similar one album to another. Yes, probably, but she has captured a style and sound all her own. And it's one that I do enjoy.
Catch this one if you're a follower.

I've been listening to a bunch of old SPK live recordings. Early industrial. The Working Cycle Transmission bootleg set. If anyone else on the board enjoys this kind of thing, please PM me. It's been surprisingly fantastic.
Really have been enjoying "The Bottom Dwellers" lately. It's a new album that our own Drums & Beer sent me recently, and in fact is his own band.
It's a C&W genre, all original compositions, and all the musicians are top-notch. Great vocals/harmonies, the steel player is outstanding, and the side men are no slouch. The arrangements are strong, and the lyrics are compelling in a story telling way. D&B (Chris) is the percussionist and he and the rhythm section are solid.
There's 16 tunes on this CD and none of them are "B" sides (to use an old term if you get the reference). I love all styles/genres and this one hits the spot for me.
Call it Outlaw C&W, modern C&W, or whatever you want, but there's steel guitar, fiddle, 6-str electric, acoustic guit, upright bass, drums, organ, piano, and some I'm forgetting. A way great ensemble totally dialed in.
I sure hope Chris makes this available soon because he's got a home run here and I'm privileged to receive an advance copy gratis!

Just was introduced to Moya Brennan -
Ethereal and introspective is the way I'd describe this. Moya is a fine vocalist and plays the harp as well as writing all her own material. Perfect for a wind down at the end of the day.
