What's your pocketknife?

Hey guys,

Here is my knife (technically not my knife, just a picture of a similar knife. Mine has a bit more wear to it.): a Cold Steel Black Sable. I call her Lilith. She goes everywhere I do. She came from the factory razor sharp. I could shave with her.

I have a few Case knives of various sizes that belonged to my grandfather, but more often than not I carry one of these:

ESEE makes great stuff. I considered buying one when I was shopping around for my primary survival knife. I went with the KaBar Becker BK2....the price was right. Outdoorsman I take it?

Yeah, I will admit Cold Steel does a lot of "gimmicky" things, and there are a lot of knives just as good for less $$$, but Cold Steel, IMO, has style, and to a lot of folks, that is what counts.

I couldn't resist mine, but she's more of a showpiece than a real tool.

They have a machete and tomahawk I like they would be great for my camping/survival needs. Which reminds me I want to write a survival book from everything I know. I carry most everything I need in case something bad happens or I get lost while hiking,camping,hunting or whatever. there are a few more "blades" I could use though

Kershaw ken onion leek with a 2 tone stainless blade. Hands down my favorite knife I own, just big enough, softened edges, and damn good looking. Used to carry my spyderco police

This was my grandfather's knife. It's nothing special, I think he had it in a drawer in his kitchen.

I never carried it around because I had a more modern swiss army for everyday use. But I lost that and started using this one as a a temporary replacement. That was a couple of years ago...I just got used to it.

So - don't take this the wrong way. This thread spurred me to doing something I've been meaning to do for a LONG time...take some photos of all the knives I've collected over the years and make up a listing so I could put it all on DVD and in out safe deposit box down at the bank. The photos are done, and the listing for the folders is done...fixed blades and the one's I've made that are still around here are still to come. Anyway, I thought you guys would get a kick out of seeing what an old fart that loves really good production knives of quality steel has hoarded up over the years.

There are a few others that aren't in the photo...but no more than another half dozen.

So below is a photo (sorry, my wife is on a trip and has the camera so these were taken with my cell phone camera, emailed to myself, and doctored a little bit). The photo is followed by a listing of the knives, most of the model numbers and some additional data. One note: The Lone Wolf Jeff Angelo...which I bought when it was just out for about $150...is one of about 50 that were made and it's now selling in some places for just under $500. Now THAT'S pretty scary!

So...what do I carry most often? Well, all things being equal...usually the Benchmade Apparition or the Spyderco Caly 3.

I especially like the #15 Trapper. I still have and use a yellow Delrin scaled Case Trapper I bought when i went to 'Nam in '69 and another Buck I bought later. It's my fave style of pocket knife.

I like the Canal Street Trapper too. There's always a place for D2 around here. It's #225 of an inaugural run when the company first opened up. It has file working along the back of the spine (machined - but dressy). They did the run in sets of the Trapper along with a fixed blade hunter that had matching fileworking. I should have snagged it as well, but didn't have any use for it. I have another pic that has all the fixed blade stuff around here...if you saw that one you'd know why. lol

That's a terrific collection. Can't come close to matching it. When I was a work unit, I always had in my jacket pocket a nifty little two-blade Buck 305, open 4 1/2", closed 2 5/8. It's a perfect gentleman's pocket knife, though Jason Bourne might think it wimpy. Lately I've been more often toting a Gerber Ripstop I that has one hand thumb stud opening and measures 5 3/4 open and 3/ 1/4 closed. Heckuva knife at the price.

I changed my mind on the cold steel tomahawk and machete, I am also a bit of a military enthusiest so I am going to pick up a m-4 bayonet, m- 1910 axe cover (can't find the m-1910 ax so am going to pick up a hatchet that comes close) to go along with my m-1943 pick/shovel. I have to pick up a cover for that that has the atachments for the bayonet. I am also going to pick up a m-1942 machete.


What brough up all of that was the K-Bars that GMF showed, found quite a few sites that had them for pretty cheap in my search for my toys. I may just have to pick up a K-bar as well :lol:
