On second thought after reviewing the list, the only thing that looks appealing to me is the five bros... If thats still there I might just let Pdiddy mail that to me and figure out what he's going to do with the rest.

Sorry, I already decided to take it as one of my trades. Update forthcoming...

2 questions.

1, why is Sweet kilarney and Sherlock holmes and Savinelli black cavendish opened when they were listed as sealed tin puts? [edit: these have been accounted for, apparently knocked opened in transit. The box takes some bad bumps out there, tins pop open, it happens]

2, Where is the Caravan, Squadron Leader, (item removed, accounted for), Kingfisher, Blackpoint, Liberty Flake, and (item removed, accounted for)? All listed as puts, none listed as takes, not listed as being in the box.

Any help, please?

Good Catch PDiddy.. I was just wondering why there had been so many 'extra' tins added (guys taking 3 but adding 4) but not showing on the list.

For what it might be worth:

The tin of Bengal Slices is there (see no. 35 on the list).

The three tins listed in (1) above were open (I gently twisted the lids to check on all the Euro-style coin twist tins, and those opened right up - none are on my sample or desired to take list in any case).

As for the 'missing tins' listed in (2), I have no clue.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Kap, that helps. There was also a sealed tin of Escudo unaccounted for but I assumed that it got jarred open in the shipping and was listed in the opened tins list. Probably the same thing for the other opened puts I questioned. My bad on missing the Bengal Slices on your list. We just noticed a big discrepancy on the sealed tins and are checking into it (doin the math, checking the record).

Thanks for the help, and anyone who may find a mistake or discrepancy in my accounting, please step up.

My pleasure; glad I decided to do an inventory of the box. I am certain that I accounted for everything that was in there (I piled up everything on the left side of my desk, and then moved each bit back to the box on the other side of the desk as I logged). The newish tin of Escudo was surely sampled from, and I myself took a few coins (my sampled/takes/puts list is forthcoming, which you can then take into account in the collation before I sent it on to Carlos). It may also help to do a final tally using the handwritten pass sheets in the box once it arrives at its final destination.

In any event, I am - and have been since noon - up to my eyeballs in smoke!

The VA # 1 was a tin I put in, it was a pickup from a pipe show...swisher tin, so from 2000 or earlier if I recall what I was told correctly. I think Dover had it listed as a take on his pass, unless there was another put in afterwards. Seems the tin was open when it got to Dover, which kinda sucks 'cause I checked the seal before I put it...suppose it could have been jostled loose during shipipng or something, but that is still kinda dissapointing.

There was a sealed Tin of Pete Sherlock Holmes which I took on my pass and am staring at right now...not sure where this open tin that is in the box came from.

I just re-read the whole thread in an effort to get it figured out, but it was a wasted effort and I'm not going to re-re-read it all over again.

You are right about the MacBaren Virginia #1 Frost.

Dover put in a tin of Sherlock Holmes that I don't see having been taken. That and the Sweet Kilarney must be the opened ones? I thought there was already one Sweet Killarney opened, but maybe it was used up?

This can be hard when things end up accidentally opened in transit (understandable), but as long as we can get it accounted for. Wouldn't even bother, but the list got to be 10 tins long.....

I have a new tin of VA #1, or a couple other sealed new tins of good baccies that I could send to a recepient of the box somewhere down the line. They could just add the tins I send them to the box while they have it, assuming the tins get there before the box does.

OK, seems that, with all the opened stuff in the box, it's been kind of hard to catch some of the "Sealed tins for trading" that came up missing. About half that we could not account for are assumed to be in the box, but are now opened. No problem, in fact, smoke em up boys!! What would be worse than losing a few tins in accounting would be a bunch of stuff guys put in for trades that got accidentally opened in transit and then not smoked, lost to drying out. There's a lot in there, don't be shy with the opened stuff!!

We still do have the following 5 tins reported as puts and AWOL from the box. Help us if we missed something.

Caravan, Squadron Leader, Kingfisher, Blackpoint, Liberty Flake

Man, there's so much stuff in there, I don't think that's a problem  There's still a lot of unopened tins in there.

If anything, fellas, save your pouches, opened tins and samples for the next round. We're going to have a ton of opened tins and samples to deal with at the end of this thing as it is!

With an unusually busy week awaiting me, I thought it in the best interest of all to wrap up my visit with our traveler rather quickly. As such, here are the preliminary results of an admittedly short, yet delightful visit:

SAMPLED:

1. Boswell Pipes & Tobacco Dan’s Blend
2. Boswell Pipes & Tobacco Premium Burley
3. Bufflehead Shop Common Teal
4. Cornell & Diehl Barrister (#102)
5. Cornell & Diehl Habana Day Dream (#420) [finished sample]
6. Dan Hamborger Veermaster (ca. 2009)
7. Escudo Navy de Luxe (STG-Stokkebye; 2009)
8. Friedman & Pease Kismet (1999)
9. Greenfield and Winther White Burley
10. Hearth & Home Anniversary Kake
11. Hearth & Home Marble Kake
12. James B. Russell Bengal Slices
13. John Patton Quadruple Virginia [finished sample]
14. John Patton Robusto Royale
15. John Patton Smoked Burley
16. John Patton Storm Front
17. McClelland 2015 Va/Per Flake
18. McClelland Oriental No. 1 (1998)
19. Orlik Dark Strong Kuntucky
20. Peretti’s Burley Plug Cut
21. Peter Stokkebye Luxry Bullseye Flake
22. Peter Stokkebye Navy Flake (2006)
23. Samuel Gawith Best Brown Flake (ca. 2009)
24. Samuel Gawith Black Rope

Although I had the time to sample a good handful of the above blends thus far this weekend (and will do more on Sunday), for the most part I just took one to two bowls worth of each for later sampling. It will probably take a little while to get through all of them, although I will work on it. Reports anticipated in due course.

PUTS – For Sampling (open tins & bulks):

1. ~20g. Cornell & Diehl Old Joe Krantz (#126) (12/08)
2. ~15g. Cornell & Diehl Oriental Silk (#414) (ca. 2009)
3. ~20g. Cornell & Diehl Yorktown (#457) (ca. 2009)
4. ~25g. Cornell & Diehl Guilford Courthouse (#927) (8/08)
5. ~25g. Cornell & Diehl Red Odessa (#968R) (3/09)
6. ~20g. Cornell & Diehl Virginia Gentleman (#969) (7/08)
7. ~20g. Cornell & Diehl Three Friars (#972) (11/08)
8. ~20g. Dunhill Early Morning Pipe (Orlik; 2008)
9. ~20g. Dunhill London Mixture (Orlik; 2008)
10. ~20g. Hearth & Home AJ's VaPer (ca. 2009)
11. ~25g. Hearth & Home Louisiana Red (ca. 2009)
12. ~15g. Hearth & Home Mt. Marcy (ca. 2009)
13. ~15g. Hearth & Home Old Companion (ca. 2009)
14. ~20g. McClelland Grand Orientals Smyrna No.1 (2007)
15. ~20g. McClelland Club Selection Samovar (2009)
16. ~20g. McClelland Tudor Castle Arcade (2008)

The above samples represent various blends I have been enjoying as of late. I hope that those down the line will enjoying sampling from amongst them. If anyone can honestly get to even a few of in addition to what is already in the box, you are a better man than I.

PUTS – For Trade (unopened tins):

1. 1x2oz. Low Country Cooper (2008)
2. 1x50g. McClelland Royal Cajun Special (2006)
3. 1x8oz. Cornell & Diehl Bayou Night (#63) (2009)

I hope those down the line find something from the above worth trading for; if not there is certainly plenty more to chose from.

TAKES:

1. 50g. Butera Royal Vintage Dark Stoved (2007)
2. 100g. McClelland Christmas Cheer 2008
3. 1.25oz. Pinkerton Tobacco Co. Five Brothers (pouch; undated)

The above have made their way into my cellar, selected on the basis of what I think to be the fair value of my puts. While I may have indeed taken something someone down the line was looking forward to, the box does possess the curious power to strike dumb whomsoever chances to behold its wiles, so said disappointment would probably be quickly forgotten in any case.

Needless to say, thanks to PB for putting this together and thanks to those before me for all the wonderful puts. As for those remaining brothers who will host our traveler down the line: you are in for a treat (although some rehydration is necessary for many of the samples, as one might expect).

My intention is to ship the box on Monday (6/14); I will post the delivery confirmation number later that evening.

P.S. For fun, I also included an unrecorded pouch of something special intended for those who feel a bit daring.

Cheers,

Kap.

Kap.. thats whats its about.. :D

So far I've seen a ton of stuff come and go that I woulda glommed onto.. Can't blame a bro for doing the same thing...

Just a thought, I understood samples were bagged, tins in the box were sealed, open tins for sampling can be identified as such by placing them in a ziplock bag, thus marking them as opened,,,,

Kap, outstanding pass,,,

Yes Mark, that's the way it works. Unfortunately it looks like a bunch of sealed tins got opened and sampled from. That was pretty clueless and wasn't supposed to happen. Also, clearly some accounting issues as we still have a half dozen unaccounted for sealed tins.

I put the sealed tin of Blackpoint in as well as a sealed tin of Plum Pudding and Escudo. I will be happy to send another tin of Blackpoint if someone will tell me who to send it to.
