3 'Thin Man' movies (the first is set around Christmas, but then went on to watch 'Shadow ottm' and TTM Goes Home'). I'll have to watch 'Another Thin Man' between now and New Year's (since it starts New Year's Eve)

Kong: Skull Island

Such a big King Kong fan from when I was a kid. Even had the steel lunchbox + thermos (still have the thermos somewhere). I don't care much for the movie format anymore in general, but to remake, or whatever, this movie was sacrosanct. Also don't care for action films. Still, this was on and convenient. Thought I'd shut it off after the first few minutes. The beginning was a little longwinded and unnecessary, but I got sucked into it. I liked that it played with the idea of giant creatures. I liked that it didn't play all that much with the Kong love interest. John C. Reilly's character was stupid funny, but I still found him funny enough and endearing.

6.5/10 (which is probably 5 marks higher than I expected)

Just finished re-watching the Fawlty Towers series for the umpteenth time. I view this at least once/yr and it never gets old. Still a hoot! John Cleese at his best, far surpassing anything he did on Monty Python. Just brilliant!

Plus there was a follow-up "Fawlty Towers" revisited special that I watched again as well. This gives a great history of the characters with lots of in-depth commentary. If you're a devotee of the series this is a must-watch.

Backbeat is a great movie about the Beatles in Hamburg when they had Stuart Sutcliff on bass and Pete Best on drums. Very likely overly fictionalized but still gritty and interesting.

Where Eagles Dare.

Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood working their magic in a war time classic. Superb.

Just re-watched this for the third or forth time. Ginger Baker was and is the quintessential drummer from that period, and I still groove on his playing. Always heard he was difficult personally, and this interview/documentary certainly supports that.

Recommended.

Loreena McKennitt is one of my favorite artists and she really shines on this concert. I caught her live back around '09, and she performed many of these selections. It was one to remember!

Classic!

I remember watching this as it aired on TV as a kid. Just brilliant.

Last night... The Photographer of Mathausen on Netflix. A moving story of inmates of the camp gathering evidence of the horrors of their experiences. A true story.

The Patriot with Mel Gibson.

Probably the 5th time I've watched this, but what an epic film. Won't be the last time I watch it either.

Saw this many years ago and just re-visited it.

Filmed in '44, and starring Barbara Stanwyck, Fred MacMurray, and Edward G. Robinson. Kind of corny acting but compelling storyline.

Red Dragon is the prequel to Silence of the Lambs, and shows Hannibal Lector and the deeds leading up to his incarceration before Special Agent Clarice Starling interviewed him.

Gripping drama, and a big shout-out to riff raff for suggesting this.

Free Solo (National Geographic channel, but also available on You Tube) and The Dawn Wall (Netflix).

Both truly remarkable stories of modern rock climbing.

Watch them if you dare, and if you do, prepare for sweaty palms throughout.

Old B&W flick starring Montgomery Clift, Elizabeth Taylor, Shelley Winters, Raymond Burr, and others.

First saw it many years ago and just as good now.
